Unconventional AI: who founded it, who funds it

Unconventional AI is a San Francisco AI chip lab founded in 2025 by Naveen Rao, Michael Carbin, Sara Achour and MeeLan Lee, who came from Databricks, MIT, Stanford and Qualcomm. What it is building: brain-inspired analog and neuromorphic compute substrates to escape the scaling crunch of digital GPUs. It has raised $475M in disclosed rounds, most recently a Seed of $475M at a $4.5B valuation in December 2025. It has not released anything outsiders can use yet.
